Xoan singing, a traditional folk art form in Vietnam, is facing several challenges that threaten its preservation and popularity. In this leaflet, we will explore these challenges and offer some solutions to ensure the survival and growth of Xoan singing. One of the main problems is the lack of interest in folk culture among the younger generation. With the rise of modern entertainment and technology, traditional art forms like Xoan singing have been overshadowed. To address this issue, we propose organizing singing competitions and concerts to showcase the beauty and uniqueness of Xoan singing. By exposing young people to this art form, we can ignite their interest and appreciation for Xoan singing. Another challenge is the limited performance opportunities for Xoan singers. Currently, Xoan singing is mostly performed in cultural festivals and specific venues. To overcome this limitation, we suggest organizing performances in public spaces such as pedestrian streets and historic sites. This will not only attract a larger audience but also create a vibrant atmosphere for Xoan singing to thrive. Furthermore, collecting and restoring old Xoan songs is crucial for preserving this cultural heritage. We encourage the establishment of dedicated centers or organizations that focus on researching and preserving Xoan songs. By documenting and digitizing these songs, we can ensure their accessibility to future generations. In conclusion, Xoan singing faces challenges in terms of lack of interest, limited performance opportunities, and the need for song preservation. However, by organizing competitions and concerts, expanding performance venues, and investing in research and preservation, we can overcome these challenges and ensure the continued existence and appreciation of Xoan singing.
