SITUATION 3 Role-play the conversation. You are at a conference . You recognise someone you met at a conference two years ago.Introduce yourself and make a small talk. Use your role card to prepare for the conversation. Student A You met B two years ago at a conference on Customer Care in London. You own a small firm which sells office equipment. It's your first day at the conference -you arrived late last night. You haven't seen the city yet. You are staying at the Grand Hotel in the city centre (a good choice: room service and the facilities are excellent) You are leaving in three days' time. You think the conference will be very interesting Student B You met A two years ago at a conference on Customer Care in London. You are the sales manager for a large telecommunications company. You have been at the conference for three days. You have visited the city (beautiful old cathedral interesting museum, excellent restaurants, but very expensive) You are staying at a small hotel outside the city (a bad choice: room too small , too far from the centre of the city). You are leaving tomorrow. The conference is boring - the speakers talk too much and go overtime.

**Student A:** Excuse me, I think I’ve met you before. Were you at the Customer Care conference in London two years ago?**Student B:** (Looks thoughtful) Let me see… I was. It’s… (pauses, trying to place A) …Ah! Yes, of course! How are you?**Student A:** I’m very well, thank you. It’s great to see you again. I’m [Student A's Name], from [Company Name]. We sell office equipment. This is my first day here – I only arrived late last night. I haven't had a chance to see anything of the city yet.**Student B:** [Student B's Name], [Company Name]. Nice to see you too. I'm the sales manager. I've been here three days already. I've managed to see a bit of the city – the cathedral is beautiful, and there's an interesting museum, but it's all rather expensive! I'm staying at a small hotel outside the city centre – not a great choice, the room is tiny and it's a long way from everything.**Student A:** Oh dear, that sounds less than ideal. I'm staying at the Grand Hotel – it's excellent, the room service and facilities are fantastic. I'm leaving in three days. Are you leaving tomorrow?**Student B:** Yes, tomorrow. This conference is rather dull, to be honest. The speakers are going on and on, and they always run over time.**Student A:** Oh, I'm hoping it will be more interesting. Well, it was lovely bumping into you again. Perhaps we could grab a coffee sometime?**Student B:** That would be great. Let me know if you're free before you leave.**(The conversation ends with a plan to meet again, demonstrating successful small talk and networking.)**
